Help Wanted:  Gardening

Gardening is a pleasure, but sometimes even the greenest thumb needs a little encouragement. Trying to discuss gardening with a clueless friend or family member, an avid gardener might as well be speaking a foreign language. Also, non-gardeners will be of little use when discussing landscaping ideas, costs, climate, etc.  As with any favorite pastime, finding friends with similar interests is very important.  However, finding a true gardening friend may be a challenge.  Thus, gardening forums, clubs, and services are available for support and information.

Gardening forums can be found on the Internet. For example, iVillage Gardening Web  hosts over 100 different forums under assorted categories. Gardeners pick a particular area of interest, find others who want to discuss the same subject, and a
helpful chat is formed.  Participants share ideas, give advice, ask questions, share success stories, and anything else a fellow gardener cares to voice.  A forum is a great resource because the chats are in real time. Instead of posting a message, and hoping someone answers, individuals can share immediately.  However, the temptation will be great to stay on the computer, rather than enjoying the garden in the yard.

In addition to forums, gardening clubs can be an excellent source for help and mutual encouragement. However, unlike a forum, Nation Garden Clubs also provide resources unavailable to the general public. Publications, educational opportunities, and even scholarships are available for serious gardeners.  In addition, gardeners are given the rare chance to use new gardening tools for a trial period.  After giving a report to the other club members, the individual has the option to send the tool back, or purchase the tool.  Finally, National Gardening Clubs host events and conventions for the true gardening enthusiast. In joining a club, avid horticulturists have a plethora of people to share a true love for plants.

Despite forums and clubs, many garden lovers seek a professional service to keep a yard and garden in pristine condition. Although many people love a gorgeous yard, the actual process of gardening is not desirable.  In other cases, health problems preclude keeping the landscape free of weeds, mowed, and watered.  With a professional service, the landscaping, planting, and subsequent care is delegated to a crew of men/women with the knowledge to install and automatic sprinkler system.  In addition, people periodically came and made the weeds and the longer grass magically disappear. Vacation is not a problem. The owner will return to a perfectly manicured yard. Thus, individuals have a perfect landscape without the physical labor or the dirt beneath the nails.

In summary, having a beautiful yard and a garden is extremely important.  A pretty home is only as wonderful as the surrounding property. After all, the neighbors drive by the yard every day. Individuals are quietly assessed by the exterior presentation of the home.  However, in today's busy society, many people do not understand the process of gardening, or appreciate the labor involved. So, mutual "green thumbed" people can meet in forums, join gardening clubs, or seek professional help to discuss the optimal garden and create a veritable "Eden" outside the front door. With so many resources available the Help Wanted: Gardening emotional sign can be replaced by "Position Filled".
